Welcome to the first monthly WON Newsletter, a new (hopefully) monthly newsletter from your friendly neighborhood Oita PAs!
As you can see, the website is going through some changes. First of all, this newsletter is getting a whole new name! We are all very excited. If you have any complaints about the name, you can petition it by commenting below, but only if you have a better suggestion. Also, if someone can come up with a better design for the newsletter, we would be grateful if you let us know.
We have decided to start up this newsletter because there are quite a few reminders that the PAs felt were important to make sure Oita JETs know about, and we’ve made it into a newsletter because it got pretty long. If you have any questions, you can direct them towards me or Miri at our usual emails!

I have come to the end of the planned material. From here on out, I will begin soliciting ideas, content, and information from JETs who are willing to help contribute to the website. In particular, I will be focusing on building up a lesson plan database. Please look out for contact about this.
If you have not yet, please take the time to respond to the 2014 ALT Survey! You should have received information about it from me via email, but in case you didn't see it, here is the link again: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/TGCRC9G
In addition, FYI the materials from the 2014 After JET Conference is available online now. There is some great information about Re-entry Preparation & Reverse Culture Shock [link to pdf], and various other resources about how to prepare for going back.
New Pages: Incoming JETs [The First Few Weeks, Yearly Timeline, Explaining the System]
Information aimed towards helping the new JETs adjust and give them an idea of what to expect when they arrive in Oita.
Explanation of the First Year Check-ins and where to start looking for extracurricular activities, plus travel safety tips hopefully.
Attention all Prefectural JETs! Your base school should know the name and email address of your successor. Please get in contact with them to help them through this transition.
Sorry about the slightly belated website update -- I have been having problems with the internet/Weebly at school recently! I have no idea what is up. Hopefully it is not going to be a persistent problem.
New Pages: Driving in Oita, Getting Your Japanese License (Canadian version), Taking the Driving Test [personal account from 2009, unverified by PAs]
Get a inside perspective on how to get your Japanese license in Japan. This is most important for those planning to stay longer than a year and drive a car! You can only use the international license for a year after arrival in Japan.
My goal for next week is to get some information up for the new JETs about what to expect from their first couple weeks in Oita.
