Hello, everyone. This is Diana Shan, the Oita ALT-PA. Welcome to our new, though woefully incomplete, OitaJET website! This site follows in the footsteps of other fantastic JET websites like the KumamotoJET website. (Which I highly recommend checking it out, even if you are not a Kumamoto JET -- there are some fantastic resources there for JETs placed all over Japan.)
My purpose in creating the OitaJET website is to create an easily accessible information center containing resources and news pertaining to the lives of JET Programme participants living and working in Oita Prefecture.
Unfortunately, right now the website is quite bare. The reasons for this are various, but can boiled down to (1) some pages are just an absolute mess and I need to sort them out before making them public or (2) I don't know that much about some topics, and so I still need to gather content, organize it, and then fact check it before making it public. This is fairly time-consuming, and since this is work I am doing on top of regular ALT work and established PA work, the whole process is very slow going. However, I am determined to build this website anyway, so I've set up a couple weekly goals.
(1) Wednesday - Publish a new page of information for OitaJET
(2) Thursday - Post a mini-newsletter about OitaJET updates on this blog and open up questions, suggestions, concerns, criticisms
The newsletter is really just my attempt to create a space for JETs in Oita to give me feedback and suggestions to make sure this website can improve and be relevant to their needs. Which actually brings me to my next point...
In the newsletter, I would like to bring up points that I want feedback about, questions that I have, etc. Therefore, I'd like to keep commenting open to all Oita JETs. This post, in fact, is set at open commenting.
However, there are some rules to this. Please keep in mind that this website is public and representative of the Oita JET community, so please be respectful and careful when posting/replying to comments. Defamatory, abusive, threatening, discriminatory or otherwise harmful language will not be tolerated. Also, I would recommend that you not post personal information about yourself or others.
If you are not sure if something you want to say is alright, it is probably safe to assume that it isn't, but feel free to contact me if you'd like a second opinion. I reserve the right to delete any comments I feel inappropriate, or to change the comments settings at any time.
So, my policy is all feedback is welcome. It won't hurt my feelings if someone doesn't like something, and I promise to consider all suggestions (though I reserve the right to either not do anything or to do something else). I have to warn you though, any major changes will come about very slowly.
That's it! Please take some time to browse through the website. When you're done, please come back here to give me your thoughts!
Let me know what you think of the website! Feel free to tell me what you like, what you don't like, what needs to be or can be better, and what else you think should be on the website. Check out the Resources page to get an idea of things I'm already planning to put up! It'd be much appreciated!
