Budget Carriers

The following list of carriers is an amalgamation of word of mouth recommendations, information from the JET Connect Magazine and recommendations from members of the JET-Setters (the JET travel facebook group). It should not be considered comprehensive.

Disclaimer and Warnings

1. Always do your own research into flight carriers, both in terms of cost, fare inclusions/exclusions and most importantly airline safety. For some budget carriers once you pay for the exclusions you may not be saving as much money as you first thought. Some budget carriers will also weight carry on and you may have to pay the excess.

2. Any fare research you do online, should be done using your web browser's incognito/private browsing mode. Otherwise if you don't book immediately the prices may rise the next time you search that route.

3. While we recommend sites like Google Flights and Skyscanner in our Travel Tips page, these sites often do not show some budget carriers or sale fares. Even if you use these search engines it is sometimes worth checking an airlines website directly.

4. It is also worth remembering that Japan is extremely we connected and that sometimes other transport options may be a cheaper option, particularly for domestic travel. In addition to the rail network, highway buses and ferries can also provide convenient options. For examples of some of the options we have from Oita, have a look at the map on the Travelling Outside Oita page.
