There are numerous temples and shrines scattered throughout the peninsula, but the standout one would have to be Futago-Ji temple which has a rich 1300 year history and is nestled on Mt. Futago, the highest mountain of the Kunisaki region. The temple grounds have a ¥300 entrance fee which is payable upon entry and is open 8am-4pm daily. Perhaps the most striking feature of Futago-Ji is the pair of Nio Guardians at the entrance steps to the temple grounds. This is not actually located within the temple grounds itself, but resides on the outskirts of the entrance and therefore does not require the entrance fee, however the main temple and grounds themselves are well worth the ¥300 fee!
