Should you be so inclined, staying at a ryokan at least once is a highly recommended experience as you can enjoy not only the private onsens but also a deeply relaxing evening with a delicious dinner and/or breakfast meal (if you choose those options). Many ryokans will loan you yukatas to wear around the ryokan as well as when you’re walking about outside during your stay there. Prices can be moderate to extremely expensive with the locations varying widely from high up in the hills to right near the train station so please keep those in mind as you search for a ryokan to book. One recommended booking site is www.jalan.net, which is available in English as well as Japanese.
