First Year Check-ins
The First Year Check-ins (FYC), formerly known as the Bi-monthly Reports, are short surveys that the PAs send out to all the first years periodically throughout the year to check in with first year JETs.
The FYC system was created in Oita to support the first year JETs by giving them an opportunity to discuss any issues, problems, or questions with the PAs as they settle into life here in Oita Prefecture. It can also be a good way to reflect on experiences had so far, and also to think about the progress JETs have and will make over the year.
The PAs will email all first years a total of five times in September, December, February, April, and June, and ask them to fill in the attached First Year Check-in form and email it back to PAs by the end of the month. If JETs don’t have access to a computer that can open/edit documents in Word, or know that they won’t be able to get their FYC form to the PAs by the end of the month, let the PAs know in advance and something can be worked out.
PAs ask that first years write at least a few sentences for each section, but there is no limit to how much can be written. Anything you write will be held confidential between you and the PAs.
Once PAs receive everyone’s Reports, they will send each person an individual reply offering answers and feedback to any issues raised in the FYC in a timely fashion.
