Prefectural advisors in Oita
In Oita Prefecture, there are three JET Prefectural Advisors (PAs) based in Oita City, one CIR-PA, one ALT-PA, as well as a Japanese PA. These are not simply job titles; PAs are expected to fulfill PA duties on top of their respective CIR/ALT duties.
what do prefectural advisors do?
Outreach PAs spread awareness about the available support systems and methods of contacting us for questions and/or concerns.
Workplace Mediation PAs can help act as mediators if you have concerns with your CO -- however, PAs cannot compel your CO to act in a certain way, only remind them of the clauses in your contract and support you. They can also provide interpretation and translation help. For serious concerns, PAs may elevate the issue to the Japanese PA.
First Year Check-ins (for First Year JETs) During your first as a JET, a PA will contact you to see how you are adjusting to life in Oita and address any concerns. Addressing JET Participant Questions and Concerns When contacted via email or phone call, PAs respond to various questions and concerns from JETs. Depending on what the JET is looking for, PAs will provide information relating to the JET Programme and daily life and work in Japan. If they are unsure of the answers, they will still try to help by pointing JETs in the right direction to find the information themselves.
Checking on JETs in Emergency Situations When something like a natural disaster occurs that may be potentially dangerous for JETs in Oita Prefecture, PAs utilize the Regional Advisor (RA) system to make sure all JETs in Oita Prefecture are safe and sound.
Prefectural Advisor Conference Twice a year, the PAs go to Tokyo to attend Prefectural Advisor Conferences for PA training. This is a one day conference. PAs also help run events like Prefectural Orientation and the Skills Development Conference.
CONTACTING PREFECTURAL ADVISORS
If it is an emergency, you should first contact your supervisor or emergency services (110 for police, 119 for ambulances).
Oita AJET cannot share PA contact information; if you are a JET in Oita looking to contact PAs, please ask your BOE or fellow JETs for information. **Note: We strongly recommend talking to your supervisor before consulting the PAs in nearly all cases. Certain administrative measures cannot be done without the knowledge and consultation of your supervisor, so if you need something done related to the JET Programme, it is most effective to start this by communicating openly with your supervisor.
